Happy Peeps- FAQ

What are Happy Peeps?

Happy Peeps is Australia’s largest Counselling and therapy platform. We’re changing how people get help with life’s challenges by providing convenient, discreet, and affordable access to qualified registered therapists. Happy Peeps offers NDIS mobile counselling services Brisbane, GP MHCP Medicare , Private Health, NDIS telehealth services for mental health counselling and therapy available anytime, anywhere Australia-wide.

With the support and care of our practitioners, you will be able to improve your mental health and emotional wellbeing, as well as your ability to function in your social environment and connect with others. You can lead a happy life and feel content by using positive psychology and listening to your worries and concerns.

Who Helped me?

Once you’ve signed up, we’ll match you with available therapists that match your goals, preferences, and the type of concerns you’re dealing with. Different therapists have different approaches and areas of focus, so finding the right person who can achieve the best results for you is essential. We find that most of the time, we can get a successful match; However, if you start the process and feel your therapist is unsuitable, you may choose to refer to another therapist.

How are Therapists Verified?

Our team ensures that every provider we offer on the platform is fully qualified and registered and in good standing. Providers applying for applications must provide appropriate registration and membership documents and proof of identity, and we then verify the registration information with the appropriate registration board.

In addition to the qualifying exam, each prospective provider must complete a case study, assessed by a registration team and be assessed via video interview and a vigorous application process. This rigorous process results in only about 20% of therapists who apply through Happy Peeps being accepted on the platform. As part of our due diligence psychology process, we also display registration and membership information for each therapist.

How Does Choosing The Right Therapist Work?

If you’re unsure where to start your psychology journey, don’t worry, our team can walk you through some of the most common feelings or factors you might want to consider to make things easier. The details of choosing the right therapist vary as people do, but there are some essential elements to starting a conversation and focusing, starting with learning more about your story. People are experts in their lives and where they want to put their work, and that’s why we want to hear about your goals and why or where you might be struggling. This is a significant indicator to cross-check with a therapist with extensive experience and training in evidence-based techniques that address this problem.

Of course, you’ll need to develop a long-term relationship with your counsellor or  therapist, so it’s essential to reach out to someone you feel comfortable contacting regularly – we’ll look at location and proximity as factors or even virtual options. Things like price points should always be clearly explained and accounted for – affordability, available dates, and maybe gender preferences. Different things make people more comfortable sitting there and talking to a professional. If any of these factors are important to you, they play a part in the installation process.

What Questions Should I Ask When I Call?

Everyone is unique, and we all have different preferences for what we look for in counseling and therapy. See if you can answer some of these questions, and they can help you start your thought process.
  • Do you have goals or aspirations for your life, your emotional self, or your relationships?
  • Are there any blocks or barriers to achieving this goal? Can you describe them?
  • Are there feelings or situations that make you feel very anxious or uncomfortable?
  • Do you have a clear or definite problem that you would like to address?
  • When you imagine talking openly and honestly with someone, do you envision the person sitting across from you being of a specific gender or age group? Maybe you don’t have a preference; perhaps you do.
  • What appointments can you accept? Do you realistically have parameters at a specific location or time of the week to access counselling hours?
  • Think about the area you live in, but also the places where you work, see your family regularly, or have commitments. Your openness to sites you can visit periodically allows the admissions team to screen those places for the best people they can find for you.
  • Are there any things you know would make you uncomfortable, or would you not want to go to counseling?

Are Happy Peeps Right for Me?

Happy Peeps might be for you if you want to improve your quality of life. Whenever something stands in the way of your happiness or prevents you from achieving your goals, maybe we can help. We also have therapists who specialise in specific issues such as stress, anxiety, depression,  relationships, parenting, addiction, food, sleep, trauma, anger, family conflict, LGBT issues, grief, religion, self-esteem, and more.

Happy Peeps is not the right solution for you if any of the following are true:

  • You are in an acute crisis or emergency (Call 000)
  • You don’t have a device that can connect to the internet, or you don’t have a reliable internet connection.

We provide non-judgemental psychology services in the comfort and safety of your home, school or office by qualified and insured psychologists.

How do I Prepare for My First Consultation?

You don’t need to prepare anything in particular before your initial meeting, but it can be helpful to think about what you want to discuss during the session. If you have an area you want to target, think about how you would describe it. If you have improvement goals (for example, about your relationship, your job, or your self-esteem), these are important points to bring to your first session – as well as clear barriers or obstacles that you know are holding you back.

What Happens in The First Session?

During your first session, your therapist hopes to get to know you and discover your identity and what you want out of life. Administratively, therapists will also review any form or information they need and explain their professional obligations regarding matters such as confidentiality and consent. Your therapist will likely structure most of the first session by getting to know you, your goals, family background, mental health history, and general environment. From there, they’ll likely work with you to create clear goals that you’ll work on together in the session so that therapy is focused on what’s right for you.

How do I Communicate With My Therapist?

You can receive therapy in four ways:
  • Exchange messages with your therapist
  • Live chat with your therapist
  • Talk to your therapist on the phone
  • Video conferencing with your therapist
  • You can use different routes depending on your needs, availability, and convenience.

How is My Privacy Protected?

We take your privacy and confidentiality seriously. We have built the most advanced technology, processes, and infrastructure to protect your privacy and the information you provide. It is important to us that you are fully aware of how your privacy and confidentiality will be treated. For more information, see our privacy policy. Please let your therapist know if you want your data or recordings to be shared with third parties. Your therapist will send you an authorisation form that you must complete and sign before your information can be released.
